II. Pre- writing:(Work in groups)

 Read the story “Chi Pheo” and report some main ideas about the book.

 “Chi Pheo” a short story is written by Nam Cao.The story set in Vu Dai village, where Chi Pheo lives. He grows up and becomes a strong and kind farmer. He works for Ba Kien but Ba Kien put him in prison. When he returns , he meets Thi No and falls in love with her. . .

 Nam Cao is famour for the short stories – interesting, sensitive,sympathetic. They give us pictures of the hard life of poor farmers in the old society.

 New Yorkers, short stories of human interest, is written by O’ Henry. The story is, of course, set in New York, where a housewife, a tramp, a lawyer, a waitress, an actress – ordinary people living ordinary lives there at the beginning of the century. The city has changed greatly since that time, but its people are much the same. Some are rich, some are poor, some are happy, some are sad, some have found love, some are looking for love. 
	O’ Henry’s famous short stories – sensitive, funny, sympathetic – give us vivid pictures of the everyday lives of these New Yorkers.
